- Juhapura
Jivapura AKA Sankalit Nagar AKA Juhapura is the largestFact|date=August 2008 Muslim area in India. It lies on the western outskirts of
Ahmedabad ,Gujarat ,India near Sarkhej, along the National Highway 8A that goes towards Saurashtra andKutch .The population of Juhapura is largely Muslim and it has been termed the largest
Muslim neighborhood ofGujarat . Almost 300,000 people live in this area. Despite the wide perception of the area being poor, crime-ridden and impoverished, a large number of Muslim professionals and businessmen also live in this area. Some extremely beautiful bungalows lie hidden in the various co-operative housing societies in Juhapura.Juhapura was a small suburb with a small population until the early '90s but after the communal riots of Gujarat in 1992-93 and especially after the 2002 communal riots, large numbers of Muslims migrated to Juhapura from Hindu-dominated areas of Ahmedabad to find safety in numbers. This caused a construction and housing boom in the area with housing prices skyrocketing.
Juhapura is still primarily a residential area but now also hosts a hospital, many schools, restaurants & dhabas and a food market. Residents often complain about neglect and discrimination from the local authorities as well as from banks, insurance companies etc.
