However, the launch of the song was marred by controversy when many radio stations and music channels banned his song and the accompanying video due to the song's lyrical content and the bad reflection focued on CBS schools inIreland . Elton John slammed the "Irish Son" single when he reviewed the latest tracks in Time Out. He said the song was "just horrible".With all the bad press Brian and the song were receiving at the time, the song failed to become his second number-one in the UK and went in at number six.
