In 1996 As Friends Rust would record six songs. The band, proud of their work, sent a three-track demo to a number of record labels, including Doghouse Records and Equal Vision Records, who both ignored the tape.Fact|date=November 2007 The band disbanded in the spring of 1997 and went to work on bigger projects, such as Red Letter Day and The Rocking Horse Winner for all but Damien, who continued with Culture. Two years later, Damien would revive the band with the members of Culture, and use four of the six tracks on their debut EP with Good Life Recordings.
