The Greek National Road 42 is a highway in the northern part of the
Aitolia-Akarnania and theLefkada prefectures that link with the center of Lefkada as well as the rest of the island and ends with the GR-5/E55 (Antirrio - Arta -Ioannina ) inAmfilochia via passing through the town ofVonitsa . After all the construction of bypasses in Greece throughout the 20th century and the early and mid 2000s, the highway has no bypasses and also serves as a highway toPreveza . The highway only passes into a village and a town by the gulf. Its total length is approximately 60 to 70 km of which around 4 km are in the island of Lefkada, the rest is in the Aitoloakarnania prefecture.The highway runs in the southern part of the
Ambracian Gulf overlooking the gulf and the mountains of Southern Epirus and rarely the Louros Valley. It enters the grassy mountains of the south and into the plains nearVonitsa and , it passes through the town and enters a forested part and west of the town forms a junction with the GR-19 (Vonitsa - Preveza - Igoumenitsa) and also GR-21 (Vonitsa - Preveza -Nea Filippada ). The highway contains a bridge over theVonitsa Lagoon and enters the mountainous part before linking with a drawbridge with the island of Lefkada, the bridge length is approximately 30 m long. The closest island of theIonian Islands that is close to the mainland. The highway for 2 km enters a grassland that nearly resembles a wasteland and are filled with sand dunes, the highway enters the town of Lefkada and ends at the centre of the junction of the roads linking to places in the eastern and the western portions of the island.History
