Jesse Schmitt

Jesse Schmitt is a playwright, poet, screenwriter, short story writer, and freelance journalist based out of New York City. In 2002, Schmitt founded In Touch Theatre Productions for new off off Broadway works.

As a playwright, Jesse Schmitt has had works produced and presented all over the country. His most oft produced play, the short "What You See" was first presented at The Theatre Studio, Inc. (TSI) old space on 8th avenue. Quickly after that, "What You See" was presented again by The Riant Theatre Company [ [http://www.therianttheatre.com/ The Riand Theatre] ] at the Summer 2003 Strawberry One Act Festival at The Producers Club, where it was advanced to the semi finals.

Winter 2003-2004 saw much opportunity for Jesse Schmitt and In Touch Productions. Forging a fast alliance with the folks at The Producers Club, Schmitt held two showcase events in December 2003 where his short plays "Language or the Kiss", "USA Baby", and "Ides of March" played in repertory. Following the December event, InTouch hosted another showcase in January 2004 where "3AM Eternal", had its debut and "USA Baby", and "What You See" were revived.

His fiancee Katharine Poklemba voyaged to New Orleans, Louisiana to present "What You See" one more time at the 11th Annual Drama Rama Festival. [ [http://www.dramarama.org/main.html Drama Rama] ]

July 2004 saw Schmitt present his first full-length play "Fortune" at the 2004 Midtown International Theatre Festival. [ [http://www.midtownfestival.org/ Midtown Festival] ] As Schmitt worked on his next full length play, he once again aligned with Riant for the Summer 2004 Strawberry One Act Festival and offered a sneak peek "Last Day: Act I"at the Festival. In September 2004, Schmitt and InTouch presented a fully produced run of "Last Day" at the Producers Club Royal Theatre.

October 2004 was where InTouch presented Schmitt's first Equity Showcase "Test Tube World" at the Sonnet Theatre featuring Equity members Matthew Hardy and TJ D'Angelo.

Schmitt's work was seen at The Riant Theatre once more "Eulogizing Abraham" (February 2005) and "The Forgotten" (August 2006) In November 2005, "Last Day" got its third full-scale production at the Where Eagles Dare Fall Festival. This third production featured Poklemba and Josh Berresford from HERE TV's "Dante's Cove".

2006 has been a quiet year for InTouch and Schmitt. Besides "The Forgotten" his only other work that year was performed in San Diego at the North Park Vaudeville Candy Shoppe. His play "Same Mistake Twice".

In 2007, there are already signs of rumbling. His play "Same Mistake Twice" is bringing back the talents of Poklemba, Jane Bacon, and David Holt to The Riant Theatre's Festival once more. This time it is performed at The American Theatre of Actors in Manhattan.

As of 2008, it appears Jesse Schmitt has come upon some hard times. The opportunities are no longer abundant or lucrative in the dwindling economy which is affecting productions and ticket sales. Some fellow playwrights have since noted that Jesse Schmitt has been spotted working at a small hotel in the lower east side of Manhattan. Jesse Schmitt has been quoted that he remains hopeful despite the lack of interest in his work.
