Rotonda, Italy

Rotonda is a town and comune in the province of Potenza, in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata. It has a population of 3,752 (conditions on 31 January 2006). It extends over a surface of 42 km² and its inhabitant density amounts to 93 people/km ².

Rotonda is famous for the "Melanzana rossa di Rotonda". This is the only Ethiopian Eggplant grown in Europe in significant quantities. A reddish kind of aubergine that looks similar to a tomato it has a unique flavor and is exported e.g. as a tasty pickle.
