Higashiiwai District, Iwate

Higashiiwai (; -gun) is a district located in Iwate, Japan.

As of September 1, 2005, the district has an estimated population of 10,026. The total area is 123.15km².

After the 3rd city of Ichinoseki creation on September 20, 2005, the district has only one town left.

*January 1, 1955-The village of Maikawa merged with the villages of Ganmi, Hagisho, and Yasaka from Nishiiwai District, and city of Ichinoseki (1st) to form the new city of Ichinoseki (2nd).
*February 1, 1955-The villages of Tagawatsu and Nagasaka merged to form the town of Higashiyama.
*April 1, 1955
**The town of Fujisawa, the villages of Yasawa, Oumi, and parts of Otsuho (Otaki, Horowa) merged to form the town of Fujisawa.
**The villages of Orikabe, Yakoshi, and the remaining parts of Otshho merged to form the village of Murone.
**The village of Namabo merged with the town of Maesawa, and the villages of Hakusan and Furushiro from Isawa District to form the town of Maesawa in Isawa District.
**The towns of Yokusawa and Ohara, and the villages of Sazawa, Shibutami, and Kyoda merged to form the town of Daitō.
*April 15, 1955-The village of Nagashima merged with the town of Hiraizumi from Nishiiwai District to form the new town of Hiraizumi from Nishiiwai District.
*September 30, 1956
**The villages of Kamoi and Kadozaki merged to form the village of Kawasaki.
**The town of Senmaya merged with the villages of Konashi, Okutama, and Iwashimuzu to form the town of Senmaya.
*November 1, 1958-The village of Matsukawa merged into the village of Higashiyama and gained town status.
*September 20, 2005-The towns of Daitō, Higashiyama, and Senmaya, and the villages of Kawasaki and Murone merged with a town from Nishiiwai District and the city of Ichinoseki (2nd) to create the new city of Ichinoseki (3rd).
