USS Morgan County (LST-1048)

USS Morgan County (LST-1048) is named for several United States counties.USS "Morgan County" (LST-1048) was an sclass|LST-542|tank landing ship built for the United States Navy in World War II. Like most ships of her class she was originally known only by her designation, USS "LST-1048", and, like all remaining LSTs, was named on 1 July 1955.

"LST-1048" was built at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was commissioned in March 1945. She served in the central Pacific during the final months of World War II and then supported the occupation of Japan. Decommissioned in May 1946, she joined the U.S. Army for continued Far Eastern operations.

In August 1950, LST-1048 returned to U.S. Navy service. During the next two months, she took part in the invasions of Inchon and Wonsan and performed further Korean War service in 1950-51 and 1952. As a unit of the Pacific Fleet, she carried supplies to the Arctic and made another Western Pacific deployment in 1953-54. LST-1048 was renamed Morgan County in July 1955 and was transferred to the Military Sea Transportation Service in May 1956. USS Morgan County was stricken from the Naval Register in August 1959 and was sold in June 1960.
