nihongo|Aizu Wakamatsu Station|会津若松駅|Aizuwakamatsu-eki is a train station located in Aizuwakamatsu city, in Fukushima, Japan. It is the main station for Aizuwakamatsu city and surrounding areas. In 2005 it had an average of 2996 passengers each day. There is a freight depot located adjacent to it.

History

The station opened on July 151899 as Wakamatsu station. It changed to its present name on May 211917.

Layout

In the forecourt of the station there is a bus terminal, taxi rank and car park. The station building, located on the eastern side of the tracks, contains a gift shop (including bento and souvenirs), travel agency (View Plaza) and ticket office (including green window). Platform 1 is immediately inside the ticket gate and most trains to Koriyama depart from here. Moving westward there is a storage track then platforms 2 and 3. The tracks at platform 1 and 2 are a dead end and a walkway at the end connects platforms 2/3 to platform 1 and the rest of the station. Platforms 4 and 5 are accessed via an overhead bridge.

Webcam

There is a webcam installed by NTT East on the walkway between platforms 1 and 2/3. This gives a good view of trains using platforms 1 and 2. The camera provides both video and sound using a 512 kbit/s stream and is heavily used when steam trains such as the SL Banetsu Monogatari are present.

The following lines pass through or terminate at Aizu Wakamatsu Station:
*East Japan Railway Company

**Aizu Line (the Aizu line finishes at West Wakamatsu Station but trains continue along JR East tracks to terminate at Aizu Wakamatsu Station.)
