subgenus_authority = Blüthgen, 1938"Paravespula" is a small
subgenus ofyellowjacket wasps, including two of the best-knownwasp species in the world; theGerman wasp , "Vespula germanica", and thecommon wasp , "Vespula vulgaris". It is occasionally treated as a separate genus, but this is not widely accepted.These particular wasps have a tendency to make underground nest with the opening usually showing from a crack in a wall or an opening in a small grass hill which makes it quite difficult to locate inorder to get them removed. The wasps are also quite aggressive and usually attack if their nest is threatened but they will sometimes attack you if you accidentally happen to cross their path and get in their way or if they feel threatened.
