Democratech Party of British Columbia

Democratech Party of British Columbia

The Democratech Party of British Columbia was accredited in 1993 as the world's first electronic direct democracy party and gained swift notice around the world, especially in Nordic European countries. Its slogan is "Empowering The World One Click At A Time" to explain its complex process that would allow individual voters to determine legislative issues from their own computers, bypassing elected representatives if they so wished.

The Democratech International Committee was also active in commencing the accreditation process for the Democratech Party of Canada and the Democratech Party of the United Kingdom. The Party ran a candidate in the Abbotsford BC by-election but found that their agenda of eliminating politicians and legislatures in exchange for ongoing electronic referendums was too far ahead of its time. The website address was taken over by a cybersquatter until 2006 when the Democratech International Committee was able to regain the registration. The Democratech International Committee came to the unanimous decision that global internet penetration had finally reached the critical point and thus reactivated the Party, with a stated intention to launch Democratech Parties in 14 major targeted nations by June 2008. In January 2007, the Party was formally relaunched through the completely updated and revised website.
