Plot

Julie tells Kirsten of Frank's true identity, and Sandy confronts Frank on why he's in Newport: to connect with Ryan. Sandy asks Ryan point-blank if he wants to meet his dad, but Ryan refuses.

Kaitlin fails a class presentation on what a dog would say in the book the class is reading, saying, "woof woof woof woof" five hundred times for the five hundred word essay. After failing, she is forced to work with Will, a smart band geek at Harbor. When Kaitlin thinks she can get Will to do her homework for her, he challenges her. Since if Kaitlin fails then Will does as well, she tells him to write the essay for her and she will present the following day.

Bound by their engagement, Seth and Summer move forward with their plans, regardless of how unready they feel. Seth challenges Summer wordlessly, and both are planning to be fiance-zillas. Summer learns the Hebrew alphabet. They go to Las Vegas to elope but Seth says it doesn't feel right without talking to Dr. Roberts first about it.

Kaitlin collects the notebook from Will the next day, but he puts "woof" instead of "ruff" five hundred times. Kaitlin makes up her report on the spot, capturing the class. After school, she waits for Will and he asks her if she is doing something. She says no, and why. Will responds that he was "just asking", so Kaitlin goes up to a band geek and says, "hey are you doing anything? Because he is free and wants to do something." But Will reassures the geek that Cooper was "just playing, just playing". Sparks are flying!

After being informed by Sandy that Ryan doesn't want to see him, Frank tells Sandy that he has cancer. Ryan sees Frank and invites him for dinner. At dinner, after briefly investigating Frank's story, Sandy receives a call from the doctor at prison to confirm that he had cancer, and finds out he was lying just to see Ryan and punches him. Ryan stands outside with Frank & tells him it's too soon for him. Ryan hugs his dad & sends him off. Taylor then tells Ryan that was the best family dinner she had ever had, & tells Ryan she'll call him later. Seth arrives with a plan to go see Dr. Roberts & the family watches a show about meerkats, because Kirsten wanted to watch it, with Sandy commenting "you don't want to get your mother angry, Seth".

*When Frank shows the Cohens and Taylor the photo of a baby Ryan it's actually a baby photo of Benjamin McKenzie.
* This is the first appearance of Will Tutt portrayed by Chris Brown.
*At the end of the episode, Sandy mentions a meerkat special the family is watching, which is a reference to a scene in the film "Junebug", Benjamin McKenzie's feature film debut.
