- Abbott Papyrus
The Abbott Papyrus [Breasted op. cit., §§ 509-535] details the investigations by Ancient Egyptian officials into tomb robberies that occurred during the reign of the pharaoh
Ramesses IX . The document, which was named after its original owner, now resides in theBritish Museum .The investigation was started as the result of the looting of ten royal tombs, as well as the sanctuaries of two priestesses of
Amun .In addition to the investigations of suspects, the document also records the state of many royal tombs, including those of the 17th dynasty pharaohs Intef VI, Intef VII,
Sobekemsaf II , Sekenenra Tao II, andKamose .More recently, its description of the locations of various tombs help lead to the unearthing of the collapsed pyramid complex of the 17th dynasty pharaoh Intef IV in 2001. In addition to this account, the
Amherst Papyrus [Breasted op. cit. §§536-541] and theMayer Papyri [Breasted op. cit. §§544-556] , which date to later in the reign of Ramesses IX, detail the trial of the men accused of robbing the tombs ofRamesses II andSeti I .References
