Aaron Harris (Islands drummer)

Aaron Harris (Islands drummer)

Aaron "Hob-Knob" Harris, is a drummer and percussionist for the band Islands since the April-May 2006. He was born in Lewisburg, West Virginia on June 8, 1985 and was raised in an affluent suburb of Pittsburgh, Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania. His parents are Malcolm & Amy Harris. Fact|date=September 2007

Displaying an intense passion for music at an early age, Aaron began playing when he was quite young and as a teenager, attended a performance arts high school, The Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, located in downtown Pittsburgh. In the spring of 2003, Aaron was accepted to the prestigious and exclusive McGill University Faculty of Music (now Schulich School of Music) in Montreal, Canada. Arriving that September with fellow Pittsburgher and music student Joseph (Yossi) Munro, Aaron became quickly acquainted with the swiftly-developing and largely independent Montreal music scene. The early part of the millennium saw the emergence of various bands from Montreal such as Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, and the Unicorns. The last of the three bands, the Unicorns, eventually underwent several changes to become Islands (band). While Aaron certainly made his mark by his famously excellent drumming at venues such as The Upstairs, he felt somewhat unfulfilled and dissatisfied with what McGill University had to offer. Fact|date=September 2007 Aaron met Nick Diamonds, the lead singer of Islands, through mutual friends in 2005, most of whom inhabited Montreal's diverse and edgy Mile End neighborhood. By spring 2006, Aaron and a fellow McGill student, Kate Perkins found themselves on a whirlwind European tour, which was followed up just a few months later by a North American tour, which included a much-anticipated stop at a music festival in Iceland.
