Sean Pero MacPherson Cameron (born
June 5 ,1974 inTokoroa ) is aNew Zealand professionalbasketball player. A 1.98 m (6'6") and 120 kg (265 lb) forward, he is the current team captain of the "Tall Blacks ", the New Zealand men's national team and plays for theGold Coast Blaze in theNBL . Māori , Cameron originally playedrugby league , but eventually switched to basketball. In 1992, he began playing in New Zealand's National Basketball League. In the NBL, he has been on seven championship teams, made the league's first team seven times, and won the MVP award five times. He has also played professionally in Malaysia, theUnited Kingdom , forChester Jets , NZ Breakers, Turkey for Banvitspor and Iran forMahram BC .Cameron was first selected for the Tall Blacks in 1994. In 2000, he became co-captain of the side, and was elevated to sole captain by the time of the
2002 FIBA World Championship s inIndianapolis . In a tournament filled withNBA players, the Tall Blacks only had one,Sean Marks , who was injured in an early game and missed most of the tournament. The team stunned most basketball observers by finishing fourth in the tournament ahead of the host country, USA. Cameron averaged 14.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in the tournament, and became the only non-NBA player to make the all-tournament team. He was joined on this team by established NBA superstarsDirk Nowitzki andPeja Stojakovic and NBA rookies-to-beYao Ming and Emanuel Ginobili.In his return season to the
