KWYL (102.9 FM, "Wild 102.9") is a commercial radio station located in South Lake Tahoe, California, broadcasting to the Reno, Nevada, area. KWYL airs a rhythmic Top 40 music format.

History

KWYL made its debut in 2001 as "Wild 93.7," but in 2003 switched frequencies to 102.9, thus giving the station more signal coverage. Prior to their flip they were a Rhythmic Oldies outlet as KGVN ("93.7 The Groove") from 2000 to 2001.

Interestingly, the 93.7 signal would later be occupied by two more Top 40s after KWYL switched signals: KYWD ("93.7 The Bomb"), and as of 2004, KWYL's current Top 40 rival KWNZ.

Although the station's playlist is heavily Rhythmic, they are listed in music trades as a Mainstream Top 40 due to the inclusion of Pop/Rock product.

The signal is so strong that in part of Sacramento you can hear the station pretty clear. The better signal in Sacramento comes in a car but if your radio in the house or business is placed just right, you will be able to hear 102.9. Although sometimes Sacramento Hip-Hop station "KSFM 102.5" can be stronger and displace 102.9's signal.
