John C. Bravman

John C. Bravman

Professor John C. Bravman serves as the Freeman-Thornton Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Dean of the Freshman-Sophomore College, and Bing Centennial Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University.

Professor Bravman earned his Bachelor's ('79), Master's ('81) and Ph.D. ('85) degrees from Stanford in Materials Science & Engineering. Professor Bravman has received several awards, including the Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching, Stanford University's highest honor for teaching. He has been a freshman adviser or resident fellow every year for the past 24 years. In his spare time, Professor Bravman enjoys photography, cooking, and discussing politics and economics.
