"Schizoglossa major" was a species of large predatory, air-breathing, land slug, a carnivorous terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae, which also contains the genera Powelliphanta and Rhytida.

This species is now extinct.

Like others in this genus, the slug had a shell which was quite small compared to its (hypothetical) body size.

Distribution

This snail was endemic to the North Island of New Zealand.

Habitat

The shells of this species are found with moa bones at Pukemiro in the Waikato area of the North Island.

hell description

The shell is very much larger than "Schizoglossa worthyae", and more roundly ovate.

The shell length is up to 36 mm, a width of 26 mm, and a thickness of 8 mm.
