Louise Poirier (politician)

Louise Poirier is a Quebec politician in the City of Gatineau, Quebec She is the current councillor of the ward of L'Oree du Parc in the Hull sector of the city.

Before entering politics, Poirier studied at Quebec City's Universite Laval and obtained a master's degree in physical activity.

When Hull was amalgamated to the new city of Gatineau, she was elected as councillor for the new ward of l'Oree du Parc. She was re-elected in 2005 for a second term.

Poirier is significantly involved in the cultural and leisure domains. She once worked at Tele-Quebec, the Quebec public television network as well as Radio-Canada. During her first term as a councillor of the new city of Gatineau, she was a member of the city's arts and culture committee. She is also a member for the Maison de la Culture arts facility in the Gatineau sector.

In 2006, she was named the president of the Société de Transport de l'Outaouais after former councillor Lawrence Cannon entered federal politics as a candidate of the Conservative Party of Canada. She is continuing the work done by Cannon on realizing the bus company major transit project Rapibus, similar to Ottawa's transitway. She was also president of Coportation of the the Executive Airport of Ottawa-Gatineau. In January 2007, Poirier and a group of 33 climbers from Gatineau climbed Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro with proceeds donated to an orphanage in Moshi a nearby village as well as the Centre de Sante de Gatineau.
