Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company is a U.S. insurance company based in Columbia, South Carolina (USA). It was founded in 1937 and incorporated as Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company (the legal name to this day) in 1939. Colonial Life is a market leader in providing personal insurance benefits for employees and their families through the workplace, along with individual benefits education, advanced yet simple-to-use enrollment technology and quality personal service. Colonial Life offers disability, life and supplemental accident and health insurance policies in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Similar policies, if approved, are underwritten in New York by a Colonial Life affiliate, The Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, Worcester, Mass. Colonial Life is a subsidiary of Unum Group, one of the world's leading providers of employee benefits.

Colonial Life's vision is to be the company of choice for voluntary benefits programs offered through the workplace. The company's mission statement says it is committed to helping working Americans understand and appreciate the benefits available to them through the workplace and select the benefits they need to protect their families and lifestyles.

Colonial Life employs about 1,100 people and has an 8,000-member independent contractor national sales organization. The company has approximately 3 million policies in place and serves 70,000 businesses and organizations (as of year-end 2010). It repeatedly is named one of the best large companies to work for in South Carolina.
