Archbishop James Whitfield (November 3, 1770 - October 19, 1834) was the fourth Roman Catholic archbishop of Baltimore, Maryland from 1828 to 1834.

Archbishop James Whitfield was born in Liverpool, England on November 3, 1770. He was ordained as a priest on July 24, 1809. In 1828, he was appointed the Apostolic Administrator of Richmond, Virginia. On January 8, 1828 he was appointed the Coadjutor Archbishop of Baltimore, Maryland, and the Titular Archbishop of Apollonia. On January 29, 1828 he succeeded Ambrose Maréchal as Archbishop of Baltimore.

Whitfield was ordained Bishop of Baltimore on May 25, 1828. He resigned as Apostolic Administrator of Richmond and died on October 19, 1834.
