Redcar and Cleveland and theceremonial county ofNorth Yorkshire ,England . It is surrounded by large, local townsMiddlesbrough ,Redcar ,Guisborough andWhitby . It is renowned for its award-winningfish and chip shop , and its overall windy nature. The village has a shop (Charlie's), a post office, church and a pub, The Jolly Holly.History
The
Cleveland Hills were once an importantironstone mining area, providing the iron ore for thesteel industry in Middlesbrough. Liverton Mines had an ironstone pit outside the village, located in the Cleveland Ironstone belt. The pit was opened in 1866 and closed in 1923. It is no longer used. The Working Men's Club has recently been demolished to provide land for residential use which no doubt has affected the community.port and recreation
Located within the heart of the village is a large
cricket field, once home of Liverton Mines Cricket Club, a local side. It is now largely unused apart from the occasional gathering of local people for leisure. There is a large wooded area and valley to the west of the village leading toCarlin How .Housing
Much of the housing is simple terraced Victorian, although a large estate was erected post
World War II . There are currently 2 new housing projects under construction, one at the site of the former Working Men's Club and the other on the site of the old Whitby Farmers store.tatistics
