"Powelliphanta gilliesi subfusca", known as one of the amber snails, is a subspecies of large, carnivorous land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae.

Distribution

This subspecies is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. It is found only in coastal scrub areas of West Nelson.

The base coloration of the shell is olive-brown to chocolate, deepening to greenish or reddish-brown towards the umbilicus, and without a clearly defined central zone. The base coloration distinguishes this subspecies from others.

The major diameter is up to 47 mm, and the height is up to 25 mm.

Conservation status

"Powelliphanta gilliesi subfusca" is classified by the New Zealand Department of Conservation as being in "Gradual Decline".
