"Powelliphanta gilliesi aurea", known as one of the amber snails, is a subspecies of large, carnivorous land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae.

Distribution

This subspecies is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. It is found only at Mangarakau, West Nelson.

Habitat

This subspecies lives in a small forest remnant only about a mile from the locality of "Powelliphanta gilliesi brunnea".

hell description

The shell coloration is olive-brown on the dorsal surface, spirally lined in dark chestnut and with a few dark green lines. The base is golden to olive, with a small area of reddish-brown about the umbilicus. The parietal callus is dark Indian-red and densely granulated.

The maximum shell diameter is up to 50 mm, and height up to 30 mm.
