"The Spaceships of Ezekiel" (1974) is a book written by former NASA engineer Josef F. Blumrich. In it, Blumric theorized that Ezekiel's account in the Bible was not a description of a meeting with God, but a description — as accurate as his era's limited technology would allow — in the best similes available to him of several encounters with technologically-advanced astronauts in a shuttlecraft from another planet.

Ezekiel was an Old Testament prophet who wrote about several visions he had in which he said God showed him the future and gave him various messages to deliver. Ezekiel describes seeing God riding in a chariot-like vehicle attended by angels.

Blumrich analyzes several different translations of the Bible in conjunction with his experience in engineering and presents one possible version of the story as seen by a modern, technological society. In the extensive appendices he presents technical specifications, in considerable detail, of his hypothesized spacecraft.

Objections to Blumrich's view

Major flaws of Blumrich's analysis are that for aerodynamic reasons (1974 Bantam ed. p. 24) the vehicle Blumrich designed is shaped like a child's top but the vehicle Ezekiel described has a very different shape. Also, Blumrich states (p. 91) "At the beginning we encounter again two already well-known expressions ("the spirit" and "in the vision of God") which tell us that Ezekiel boards a spaceship and flies in it." Blumrich does not mention that Ezekiel 2:2 and 3:24 say, "the Spirit "entered" me".
