"Powelliphanta marchanti", known as one of the amber snails, is a species of large, carnivorous land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae.

Distribution

This species is endemic to the central North Island of New Zealand.

hell description

"Powelliphanta marchanti" is a large land snail with coloration of yellowish-brown to old-gold, with a reddish-brown tinge towards and within the umbilicus. The dorsal surface and periphery is very sparsely spirally lined in darker brown.

The shell diameter is up to 54 mm, and height up to 30 mm.

Conservation status

"Powelliphanta marchanti" is classified by the New Zealand Department of Conservation as being "Serious Decline".
