"Powelliphanta fiordlandica", one of the amber snails, is a species of large, carnivorous land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae.

Its survival status is vulnerable.

Distribution

This species is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. It is found only on Resolution Island in Fiordland.

hell description

"Powelliphanta fiordlandica" has a small, highly glossy shell which is thin and weakly calcareous, of low profile, with a deeply invised suture and a wide umbilicus. The shell coloration is rich brown above with radial bands of paler colour, and a base of darker brown. and .

The maximum shell diameter is up to 32 mm, and height up to 16 mm.

Conservation status

"Powelliphanta fiordlandica" is classified by the New Zealand Department of Conservation as being "Nationally Vulnerable".
