Emeritus Professor Dr.Prasert Thongcharoen (ศาสตราจารย์เกียรติคุณ นายแพทย์ ประเสริฐ ทองเจริญ) M.D. (born 2 January 1933) - is a well-known Thai
virologist , specialised in the fields ofSARS ,HIV ,Bird Flu and many other diseases. Graduated fromBernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine Hamburg and the world-renownedUniversity of Hamburg [Mahidol University, Mahidol University- B. Braun Prize 2006 Winner, Printed by P.A. (Thai)] , he then started researching on virus diseases straight after his graduation, and today, after more than 50 years of a constant around-the-clock routine, he continues to research in a field which he specialises in. His reputation was acquired both nationally and internationally during the spread of Bird Flu a few years ago. He was once called by the ousted Thai PMThaksin Shinawatra "Ai Mor" or to say it in English "That Bloody Doctor" for the cause of him exposing the spread of Bird Flu in Thailand. Dr.Prasert has been presented with many illustrious awards, to name one, the B-Brown award given by the prestigious Mahidol University. He was also the Director ofWHO Collaborating Centre on AIDS and Member of theWHO Expert Committee Advisory Panel on Virus Diseases. [Mahidol University, Mahidol University- B.
