Kundapura taluq ofUdupi district , India. The village is also known as 'Kumbashi' or 'Kumbhashi'( _kn. ಕುಂಭಾಶಿ). It lies enroute fromUdupi towardsKundapura on the NH 17.Etymology
While the name Kumbhasi is said to be derived from Kumbhasura, who was slain here, Anegudde ( _kn. ಆನೆ ಗುಡ್ದೆ)comes from Aane (elephant) and Gudde (hillock), as it is the abode of the elephant-headed god, Sri Vinayaka.ll
One of the best known Ganesha temples in Udupi District is the temple of Shri Maha Ganapathi at Anegudde.
Here, Lord Ganapathi is also called, ‘Siddhi Vinakaya’ and ‘Sarva Siddhi Pradaayaka’, the provider of all boons. People come here with all kinds of wishes. The Lord Vinayaka here is said to fulfill all the wishes of his devotees.
Anegudde is considered one of the seven 'mukti sthalas' in coastal Karnataka (Parashurama kshetra).
How to reach
Kumbhasi (Anegudde) is located on the NH 17 at a distance of 90 km from
Mangalore , 9 km fromKundapur , and 30 km fromUdupi . Kumbhasi is located about 400 km from the state capitalBengaluru .Frequent bus service is available from Mangalore /Udupi /Kundapur to Kumbhasi.
To reach the temple, one can either walk from the bus stand using the stairs or hire an autorickshaw / taxi to reach Anegudde temple at the top of the hill.
The nearest airport is at Bajpe near Mangalore.The nearest railway station is at
Barkur , near Kundapur.Accommodation
Anegudde Temple has two guest houses for pilgrims.
Special Days
On the Chauthi / Chaturthi (the 4th day after the full moon) of every lunar month, special poojas are held at the temple.
