From Puerto Rico, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ireland and Korea by way of El Bronx, New York, Candela Soul’s musical journey incorporates a range of indigenous influences and styles – Afro-Cuban rhythms, Puerto Rican soneo, Colombian cumbia – alongside rock, pop, and the thoroughly modern, born-in-New-York syncretisms of salsa and hip-hop. Mix it all together and out comes a new, evocative sound. The group’s stellar musicianship backs the dramatic, mesmerizing vocals of la nueva diva, Lisa “Candela” Torres. Their debut album bears witness to the musical place they discovered, where ancient roots intertwine with contemporary sensibilities, and we find the unique collaborative sound and state of mind that is… Candela Soul.
Candela Soul's musical journey ended on January 16, 2007, due to a disagreement regarding future managing steps for the band. A mutual agreement between band members could not be reached (outside management was sought by some members of Candela Soul without success), and the band was left with no other choice but to dissolve. This all happened shortly after Candela Soul had finished their self-titled debut album "Candela Soul," on October 2006. Most songs in the debut album were penned by Luis "El Diablito" Burgos.
