After Nakajima played Godzilla for the first three films, he was now famous for playing the king of monsters. He was offered roles in America to play monsters, but Eiji Tsuburaya told him that they can't make anymore Godzilla movies because he's the only stuntman who makes the monster look real. Nakajima also choreographed the monster battles. Nakajima played Godzilla from 1954 until 1972. Ever since Tsuburaya's death in 1970, Nakajima didn't feel the same with his portrayal as Godzilla. He retired in 1972 after filming Godzilla Vs. Gigan [1972] .
