Luis Jiménez (baseball)

Luis Antonio Jiménez (born May 7, 1982 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela) is a first baseman in Minor League Baseball. He currently has a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals organization. Jiménez throws and bats left-handed.

Signed by the Oakland Athletics on January 18, 1999, Jiménez has played for various minor league teams for the A's, the Baltimore Orioles, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Minnesota Twins before being signed by the Boston Red Sox to a minor league contract on February 1, 2006. With the Portland Sea Dogs in 2006, Jiménez hit 17 home runs and batted in 70 runs, earning a .276 average. The Boston Red Sox organization re-signed him to a minor league contract on December 20, 2006 and invited him to participate in the Red Sox' 2007 Spring Training. On November 27, 2007, the Washington Nationals signed him to a minor league contract. He began the 2008 season with the Class AA Harrisburg Senators.

Played his first game with the (AAA) Clippers on July 18th 2008. In his first three games, he batted .300. He appears to have replaced Larry Broadway as starter. On July 21, Dimitri Young became the third Nationals first baseman to go onto the Disabled List. It is rumored that the Nationals moved him ahead of Larry Broadway because of his hitting power.
