Byron Pitts

Byron Pitts

Byron Pitts (born October 21, 1960) is a lead reporter for CBS News. He covered the September 11, 2001 attacks and Iraq. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1982, and is an alumnus of Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore, MD.

On April 7, 2008, Pitts produced a controversial report on illegal immigration which aired on the CBS Evening News. The report suggests children of undocumented immigrants are a drain on the U.S. economy. The statements and statistics presented have been challenged by U.S. immigration experts as false and misleading [ [http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0408/9952.html Latinos outraged over CBS report - Gebe Martinez - Politico.com ] ] . In addition, the report fails to present both sides of the issue, and uses the statements of a poor, hospitalized, uneducated Mexican woman to make broad generalization on Mexican immigrants and their motives to enter the U.S.
