"The Young in Heart" (1938) is a film comedy starring Janet Gaynor, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Paulette Goddard, Roland Young, and Billie Burke.

Made by Selznick International Pictures and distributed by United Artists, the movie was directed by Richard Wallace and produced by David O. Selznick from a screenplay by Paul Osborn, adapted by Charles Bennett from the serial "The Gay Banditti" by I. A. R. Wylie. The music score was by Franz Waxman and Heinz Roemheld, the cinematography by Leon Shamroy, the production design by William Cameron Menzies, and the art direction by Lyle R. Wheeler.

Plot

The plot involves a family of flamboyant con artists who gradually decide that it is actually easier to work for a living after a series of gut-wrenching peccadilloes.

* "The Young in Heart" was Janet Gaynor's final leading role before electing to leave films while at her height.
* Legendary Broadway actresses Laurette Taylor and Maude Adams were considered for the part of Miss Fortune. Both made tests (both still exists) -- the only examples of sound film by either of these famous Broadway stage actresses.
* This was also Paulette Goddard's first credited role after Charles Chaplin's "Modern Times".
* The film features Rust Heinz's futuristic car, the Phantom Corsair.
