Karviná District ,Moravian-Silesian Region ,Czech Republic . It was a separate municipality but after the expansion of the city ofHavířov created in 1955 it became administratively a part of this city in1960 . It has a population of 1,064 (2007). World War II war crime inZaolzie area - the Żywocice tragedy. It was a murder of 36 villagers, mostly local Poles, in and around the village on6 August 1944 . This massacre is known as Tragedia Żywocicka in Polish or Životická tragédie in Czech.There is a memorial commemorating that tragedy built in the village. It was designed by Polish architect Franciszek Świder and inaugurated on 25 September
