Mansoor Al-Jamri

Mansoor Al-Jamri

Mansoor al-Jamri (Arabic: منصور الجمري‎) (also Mansour and Mansur) was born in Bahrain on 17 December 1961. He is the son of Bahrain's spiritual Shi'a leader, Sheik Abdul-Amir Al-Jamri.[1]

Mansoor is the Editor-in-Chief of the independent Bahraini daily newspaper Al Wasat[2]. He was forced to resign by the government during the 2011 Bahraini uprising on 3 April 2011, but was reinstated back to his position by the Board of Directors on 4 August 2011 [3] .[4] He returned from the United Kingdom in December 2001 and founded the Bahraini daily newspaper, Al Wasat, following the introduction of political reforms in Bahrain.

Dr. Al-Jamri is a recipient of the CPJ International Press Freedom Awards in 2011[5] along with three other awardees.

Apartheid in Bahrain

He is an outspoken critic of Apartheid in Bahrain, telling the Los Angeles Times in 2011 that the government of Bahrain runs a system of "apartheid... They've made a decision that half the population is not wanted, and they want to instill fear in this population and dehumanize them."[4]
