College Bowl

Greenbaum is one of the few people to exhaust their six-year eligibility for College Bowl (the intercollegiate quiz competition), playing for all three of his universities. In 1987, he was the scoring leader for NYU as he took them to the national quarterfinals. In 1988, he won the Regional MVP award for GWU despite losing in the regional finals. In 1989 and 1990, he captained GWU to the national Final Four, finishing fourth and third respectively, each time losing to the eventual national champion. In 1989, he was voted a national all-star.

He also coached GWU to a national fourth place finish in 1994.

Legal career

Greenbaum was, and is, a solo practitioner in Fairfax concentrating on juvenile court and criminal defense work.

In 1997, he was retained to defend Roland Iliff, in a case that gained national attention. Iliff was accused of luring 12-year-old Brian Poulsen across the country after meeting him in an online chat room, secreting him in his basement, and three times having sexual relations with him. Iliff was convicted in 1998 despite a vigorous defense and sentenced to sixty years.

In 2004, Greenbaum was appointed to represent MS-13 member Heyner Flores on malicious wounding and related charges. Flores, whose case received considerable local attention, was accused of cutting off a rival gang member's hand with a machete. Flores pled guilty and received fifteen years.
