- Imam Tahir Anwar
Born in London, England, Imam Tahir Anwar's family moved to the
San Francisco Bay Area in 1983. His basic religious education was with his father, also a religious scholar and Imam. Imam Tahir left in 1991 to attended a traditional Islamic University (madarassa ) in Gujrat, India. He is Hafith ul Qur'an, has a B.A. in Islamic Theology and has completed many other advanced courses in Islamic studies, earning him the title of Aalim or Scholar. He serves as Imam and Director of Religious Services here at South Bay Islamic Association. He is also the head of the Islamic Studies Department, and an Islamic Studies teacher atGranada Islamic School (attached to the Muslim Community Association of Santa Clara County. He has also taught Hanafi fiqh at the world-renownedZaytuna Institute .As one of the most respected young Islamic Scholars in the Bay Area, Imam Tahir is often called to serve on different community panels and commissions:
* Human Rights Commissioner for the City of San Jose
* Muslim Chaplain at the Santa Clara County Correctional Facilities.
* Community Advisory Panel for KQED,PBS radio and television channel.and he is frequently invited to speak at community forums, various Universities and religious institutions. He has also had the opportunity to travel to many different countries, thus he is fluent in English, Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, and Gujarati languages. He is married and has two sons.
