- Hykko
Hykko is an old term, not frequently seen in present day English, but is a racial slur, inferring the inferiority of the Finnish Race The term originated during the 2nd world war period, where Fins were looked down on by the general populace after their brave victory over Germany. Germans would refer to them as Hykkon, or as a "Hykko" which was intended to produce a negative reaction. In Finland today, older members of the community would find this offensive, yet it is unheard of in the later generations. This insult bears the same potency as the term "Nigger" directed at African Americans. For more information on such insults and racism, see "Racial Slurs," "Slave Trade" and "Racism."
The prominent poet, Reilu Kerhu denounced this recent term as "Failure to recognise a great achievement" in his works; The Aftermath.
