- Tex (THX)
Tex is a computer-animated
red /silver robot that appears in some of theTHX film trailers. He was created byJohn Lasseter ofPixar in the mid-1990s as a THX mascot. Tex first made an appearance in a THX trailer from 1996 animated by Pixar. In the trailers that Tex makes an appearance in, he fixes the THX logo when it breaks down or has a problem.
* First, he configures the logo's operations on a trap door on the "X" in "THX". An extended plug is also on the trap door for connecting to an object that has an outlet. (Such as the "Moo Can") The logo then rumbles, Tex flies out of the screen with the Moo Can's string being loose from Tex and inside the trap door with the logo then being fine.
* Then, the THX logo does itsDeep Note , then dies, theDeep Note stops and dies too with the T's long line drops down on the "H" and "X", the dark background lights on, Tex comes in and opens the trap door that we saw in the last trailer he gets his infamous jet pack, he gets a rubber mallet goes to the right and you could hear some whirring, he goes to the left and then we hear more whirring, goes in the middle of the "T" and "H", he opens another door in the "T" fixes the logo and then the words "Lucasfilm Ltd" and "Sound System" appears in the top and bottom of the logo, Tex kicks the lines in the bottom of the logo, the opened trap door on the "X" closes.
* A 2006 trailer has Tex hovering in front of a car (a BMW Z4) until he gets sucked into the car's engine. He swirls around inside the engine components until he finally gets blown back out the car's exhaust pipe, and we hear the crescendo.Tex, and the THX trailer that shares his name, are parodied in an easter egg on "
The Simpsons Movie "DVD andBlu-Ray . In this parody (which was made without the involvement of THX), Tex awakesHomer Simpson (who is sleeping in a hammock) and eventually is chased around the frame and smashed before he can "repair" the trailer. Because this Simpsons trailer is a parody (and was not approved by THX), the THX logo is not shown entirely (instead, the logo reads "TH") and a parody of the "deep note" tone is heard.
