The Marion Institute is a non-profit from New Bedford, MA, that runs a variety of projects and programs relating to environmentalism, social justice, health and healing, and spirituality.

"Marion Institute provides support and insight to emerging initiatives that make a profound difference in the world. Their work does not show up at the head of the parade, but is often the reason there is a parade at all. The Institute shows up early and presciently to bring forth the most innovative people and projects in the world." - Paul Hawken

As part of the PBS Body & Soul series, Gail Harris interviewed Dr. Thomas Rau, medical director of the Paracelsus Klinik in Lustmühle, Switzerland. Dr. Rau has been active as a hospital physician in rheumatology, internal medicine and general medicine. He has also trained students in naturopathic healing methods. A first of its kind, the clinic combines holistic medicine, naturopathic treatments and biological dentistry. The Marion Institute's Paracelsus Biological Medicine Network is dedicated to promoting the work of Dr. Rau and his biological medicine in North America.

"Connecting for Change: Bioneers by the Bay" conference

The Sixth Annual Connecting for Change: A Bioneers by the Bay Conference presented by the Marion Institute, in the historic Downtown of New Bedford, MA, on October 22-24, 2010, is an internationally acclaimed annual gathering of environmental, industry and social justice innovators who have demonstrated visionary and practical models for restoring the Earth and its inhabitants.

Over 2,000 students, teachers, green business innovators, scientists, grassroots leaders and everyday folks from across the East Coast will gather to embrace, share, brainstorm, network, heal, learn, teach, celebrate, recharge and connect for change. We will roll up our sleeves and harvest tangible, practical solutions to the specific challenges we face here in the Northeast and the world at-large.

We have planned a rather remarkable three days of live keynote presentations, afternoon workshops, an inclusive family program, an extensive Youth Initiative program, a downlink of the 21st Annual Bioneers Conference in California, an exhibition hall featuring sustainable businesses and organizations, a community action center, films, music, art installations, a farmers’ market and local & organic food.

As a national Beaming Bioneers Conference site, we join nineteen other sites throughout the entire country in producing a local Bioneers Conference. We will be telecasting plenaries from the main San Rafael Bioneers Conference, which is in its 21st year, each afternoon.
