Antonio Armellini

Antonio Armellini (August 2 1943) is a government figure in Italy and the current ambassador to India.

Early life

He was born in 1943. He went to Stanford University as a Fulbright scholar in 1962-63 and graduated in Law from the University of Rome in 1967.

Career

He served in many government offices during the early 70's including the foreign and Prime minister's offices. During the 1980s he served in many foreign affairs posts including the CSCE from 1988-1992. His ambassadorships began in 1993 when he went to London. He subsequently became ambassador to Algeria in 1998. In 2003 he became part of the special Italian envoy to Iraq and in 2004 he was named ambassador to India. India-Italy ties

During Armellini's tenure, he has worked on strengthening the ties in manufacturing between the two countries. He has stated that the $3.5 billion trade (in 2004-2005) between Italy and India is set to double by 2009. Family
