- Mutable Realms
Mutable Realms was an independent
video game developer that specialized in Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG s). They coined the term "Ultra Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game", or "UMMORPG", for a game that can support over 10,000 simultaneous players in a shardless, zoneless environment.Mutable Realms' most anticipated game was "Wish", which was set to be released in the second quarter of 2005. Unfortunately, the project was cancelled due to low subscriber number projections (not issues with the projected monthly subscription price). Parts of Wish are now being sold off, including models, art, and sound. Some of which can be found in use in the game Irth Online.
Much of the Art team was brought back together with the creation of [http://colossalstudios.com/page.php?page=home Colossal Studios] . Originally created to sell the assets from Wish, they are now a complete content creation team which does contract work for other development houses.
[http://www.zeroc.com ZeroC] , which was created by Marc Laukien, who also created Mutable Realms, was the technology used in the server for the MMORPG Wish. ZeroC is a networking middleware which has a commercial and GPL license. ZeroC is still a viable company that supports is various clients.
