Pergau Dam

Pergau Dam is the hydroelectric dam in Kuala Yong, Kelantan, Malaysia. It is located about 100 km west of Kota Bharu.

Power station

The power station is a hydroelectric power station, using 4 turbines of 150 MW installed capacity. The station is operated by Tenaga Nasional.

The construction, which was undertaken by Balfour Beatty [ [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/288183.stm Turkish Dam gets UK Support] ] and Cementation International, started 1994 and completed in 2000. The dam began operation on 2003 and was officially opened on 2003.

The permanent dam components are as follows:
*Main Dam
**Maximum height above foundation of xxx m, and crest length of xxx m, volume of fill is xx.xx million cubic metres.
**Crest elevation is xxx m above sea level (ASL), maximum flood level is xxx m, operating levels maximum xxx m and minimum xxx m.
**Reservoir area at xxx m ASL is xxx km², and with a catchment area of x,000 km². Storage volume is xx,000 million cubic meters.
*Power Intake Structure - 4 bays.
*Spillway- gated concrete weir with chute and flip bucket, with capacity of x,000 cubic meter per second.
*Power Tunnels - 4 tunnels.

**with 4 penstocks to powertrains comprising 4 turbines of 150MW each, 4 air-cooled generators of 180MVA each and 4 transformers of 180MVA each.

Controversy

In Britain, there were allegations of corruption over the way in which development funding was granted to a British consortium which partly funded the project. In the case "R v Secretary of State for Home Affairs ex parte World Development Movement", a pressure group challenged the decision to grant funding to the project.
