St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers is the only teaching hospital in Indiana to receive the HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence three years consecutively. The hospital is ranked among the top 5% of all hospitals in the country for overall clinical performance.

The hospital traces its origin back to 1914 when the Order of the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration founded a hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana. Today, it is one of the largest health care systems in Indiana, with three main facilities in Beech Grove, Indianapolis and Mooresville. Additional outpatient facilities are located throughout the southern and western parts of greater Indianapolis, including its new St. Francis - Plainfield Health Center, which opened in April 2006.
