- Ed Hunt
Ed Hunt is an athlete known for
mountain biking , and car racing. He was born onMarch 17 1977 in Midland,Ontario ,Canada . He was accepted as the first rider to ever compete in a 24 hour mountain bike race as a solo competitor. In 1994, at age 17, Hunt showed up to Horseshoe Resort (near
Barrie, Ontario ) for Tri-Life Sport's first ever 24 Hours of Indiglo (now 24 Hours of Adrenalin) [http://www.twenty4sports.com] . Stuart Dorland, founder of 24-Hours of Adrenalin said, “Ed Hunt at 17 years old did our event in 1994 solo.” And so this wonderfully masochistic sport was born. The races are simple: Ride the course more times than the next guy in a 24-hour period and you win [http://mtbike.mountainzone.com/2005/adrenalin/index.html] [http://www.usatoday.com/sports/cycling/2005-09-06-mountain-cyclist_x.htm] .Hunt continued his winning streak next year (1995) at Beaver Valley Resort (near Collingwood Ontario), then at Mont Tremblant, Quebec in 1996. Hunt was also won the Ontario Provincial Mountain Bike Championships (cross-country) in 1993 and 1995, and was the Junior World Cup downhill winner at Mont Sainte Anne, Quebec in 1994. As a professional Hunt had few victories; he raced for the Cyclepath Canada Factory team in 1996, Norco Canada Factory team in 1997 and GT Canada Factory team in 1998.
In 2003, after a five year hiatus to complete his university education Hunt decided to pusue his first love automobile racing. Hunt finished second in the 2003 Ontario GT-C Championship. In 2006 Hunt was selected to compete on a
Discovery Channel reality series called Star Racer [http://www.starracer.ca] . Hunt had a strong performance through the many challenges and races - he won the fitness and sponsorship challenges, but lacked speed in the final race. In the end Devin Cunningham of St. Bruno, Quebec took the title of Star Racer.
