Three Horses Beer

Three Horses Beer (better known locally as THB) is a 5.4% abv pale lager brewed by the Star Brewery of Madagascar.

It is sold in a small size bottles (33 cl) and large size bottles (66 cl) throughout Madagascar, normally in brown bottles that have obviously been used several times. It can be purchased at petrol stations, restaurants, and convenience stores. It has a light taste in the pale lager style. The dark color of the bottles is designed to protect the beer from the hard tropical sun of Madagascar. An export version of the Three Horses Beer can be found in aluminium cans of 33 cl. This format is more adapted to export as cans waste less space in containers than regular bottles.

The most common beer is the Pilsener. A THB Lite can also be found. THB Lite is not a low calories beverage, but a low alcohol beer (1%). Finally, THB Fresh, which is a Shandy (locally called Panaché), with less than 1% of alcohol.

The beer sponsors the premier football competition in Madagascar, the THB Champions League.
