"Somer Assault" is a video game released by Atlus in 1992 for the TurboGrafx-16. It features an unnamed pink slinky as the protagonist which can fire bullets from its sides, jump, and slink along walls with side-scrolling puzzle-based action.

The story is presented in a short prologue at the game's start--a sorceress uses her evil powers to attempt to control the world, and breathes life into twelve minions--the Zodiac. The Pink Slinky must battle through twelve stages of enemies, defeating each Zodiac boss, to reach the sorceress and stop her evil plot.

Gameplay

The Pink Slinky is able to move along the floor, walls, and the ceiling by slinking along them; it can also make a short jump to move between walls and platforms to slink to a different section of each stage. The Pink Slinky is also equipped with a machine gun that fires to both sides of it to take out the myriad of enemies that swarm you on each stage. The player is given several hit points which can be increased with power-ups as well as several lives should the player die and unlimited continues. A time limit is given for each level, and the goal is to reach the Zodiac boss of the stage and defeat it before time expires. On the final stage, the player must defeat all of the bosses in succession before being allowed to fight the sorceress.

Zodiac

At the start of the game, the player is asked to enter his or her birthdate. This causes the player's Zodiac Boss to fire power-ups as gifts rather than damaging shots. Every Zodiac Boss repeats a pattern of firing at the player.

Items

Occasionally, upon defeating an enemy, it will leave behind a power-up for the Pink Slinky. Among the power-ups included are:

Heart: Heals the Slinky for one point of damage.
Bar: Adds an extra hit point to the Slinky.
Speed: Increases the Slinky's movement speed.
Triple Shot: Adds guns to the top and bottom of the Slinky so it can fire a total of six shots simultaneously (3 from each side).
Invincibility: Grants the Slinky temporary invincibility to all damage.
Screen Clear: Instantly defeats all enemies on the screen.
Ricochet: Causes all shots to ricochet off surfaces.
Cursed: An anti-powerup that reverses the D-Pad's controls.

All items are lost when the Pink Slinky dies.

Trivia

* The title "Somer Assault" is a play on the word somersault, as the Pink Slinky somersaults around the stage assaulting enemies.
