Clarence V. Bertucci was a private in the
United States Army , stationed atSalina, Utah . He was held solely responsible for theSalina Utah POW massacre and determined to be unfit to stand trial due toinsanity .Bertucci was from
New Orleans, Louisiana and had previously been convicted twice by court-martial for minor military discipline infractions; hence he was still a private even though he had enlisted in 1940. He died in November 1969 after spending an unknown amount of time at a mental institution inNew York .References
