The district currently consists of 25.16% of Santa Clara County, including all of Cupertino, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale, 79.97% of Santa Clara, and 9.44% of San Jose.

2008 Primary
Since Sally Lieber is termed out, four democratic candidates ran in the June primary to become the democratic candidate, hoping to win her seat. The candidates were Paul Fong, Dominic Caserta, Kris Wang, and Anna Song. Paul Fong won the primary and will be the Democratic candidate for the November 4 election. His opponent will be Republican Brent T. Oya, who ran unopposed in the Republican party primary and became the candidate.
